Arc Edge Metalwork Complete Job to Elevate Gallery Railings

Stage 1 of the Town Mill metalwork refurbishment has been completed by Alistair of Arc Edge Metalwork.

Arc Edge is an award winning independent company specialising in welding, metal art, sculptures and bespoke metal work projects in Bridport, Dorset and across the South West and was founded in 2021 by Alastair, an Engineer and Master Craftsman with 16 years of experience and an insatiable enthusiasm for creative projects.

Arc Edge have done a fantastic job installing new galvanised railings over the bridge and along the river side in front of the Malthouse Gallery. Beautifully topped with an Oak handrail supplied and fitted by @evergreen.woodwork.

These railings are a vast safety improvement on their predecessors - see the “BEFORE” picture above - which consisted of horizontal wire rope balusters (mostly broken) with huge gaps.

The public will now be able to enjoy the gallery and Mill enclosure safely.

Using money raised by National Lottery players, The National Lottery Heritage Fund supports projects that connect people and communities with the UK's Heritage. The installation of these railings is made possible with The National Lottery Heritage Fund. Thanks to National Lottery players, we have been able to move forward with this safety and rejuvenation project along the perimeter of the mill site, these projects being key to making the heritage here fit, safe and accessible for both our visitors - and for a modern world.

We also extend our thanks to the other organisations who have generously offered their support to these important projects and have been critical in helping us realise our vision for the Town Mill site - Lyme Regis Town Council, Dorset County Council, Medlock Charitable Trust and Garfield Weston Foundation.
